Tennessee Health Coverage, Made Clear
Compare HealthCare.gov marketplace plans, Medicare, group and employer coverage, dental, vision, ICHRA, and short-term options, with one independent, licensed Tennessee agency helping you from Memphis to the Tri-Cities.
Tennessee shops on HealthCare.gov
Tennessee uses the federal marketplace, HealthCare.gov, rather than running its own exchange. We help you compare every carrier in your ZIP code, apply, and claim the tax credits you qualify for.
Have a Cigna individual plan in Tennessee? Cigna is leaving the Tennessee individual marketplace after 2026. If you bought a Cigna plan on HealthCare.gov or directly from Cigna, you will need to choose a plan from a different carrier for 2027 during Open Enrollment, November 1, 2026 to January 15, 2027. Enroll by December 15 to keep coverage without a gap on January 1. What Cigna members should do next.

Tennessee does not run a state exchange. Residents shop individual and family plans on HealthCare.gov, the federal marketplace, which is also the only place to claim the premium tax credits that lower monthly premiums. The state is split into eight rating areas, so the carriers and prices you see depend on your ZIP code.
As independent agents, we are a free resource: we compare every carrier offered where you live, check that your doctors and prescriptions are covered, and make sure your income estimate captures the savings you are owed. Read our full Tennessee marketplace guide.
Does Tennessee have its own health insurance exchange?
No. Tennessee uses HealthCare.gov. You can apply there on your own, or a licensed agent can complete the same federal application with you and compare every plan in your area at no extra cost.
When can I enroll for 2027?
Open Enrollment for 2027 coverage runs November 1, 2026 through January 15, 2027. Enroll by December 15 for coverage starting January 1. Outside that window, a qualifying life event such as losing coverage, moving, marriage, or a new baby opens a Special Enrollment Period.
Are premiums going up for 2027?
Carriers have filed proposed 2027 increases, roughly 10% to 29% depending on the company, with a weighted average near 16%. These are proposals, not final rates. Your actual cost after tax credits can move differently, which is why comparing carriers each fall matters.
Will an agent cost me more?
No. Premiums are set by the carrier and are identical whether you enroll alone or with a licensed agent. Carriers pay us a commission after you choose a plan.
Can you help me keep my doctor?
Yes. Networks differ a lot between BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee, Ambetter, UnitedHealthcare, Oscar, and Alliant. We check your doctors, hospitals, and prescriptions against each plan before you enroll.
Tennessee did not expand Medicaid. Here is what that means for you.
TennCare covers specific groups, not every low-income adult. That leaves an estimated 89,000 Tennesseans in a coverage gap, earning too little for marketplace tax credits and not fitting a TennCare category.
Who TennCare and CoverKids help
- Parents and caretaker relatives with income up to about 100% of the federal poverty level
- Pregnant women up to about 250% of poverty
- Children, with income limits that vary by age, plus CoverKids up to 250% of poverty
- People who qualify through age, blindness, or disability programs
Who falls through the gap
- Adults without dependent children who are not disabled have no TennCare category
- Marketplace tax credits only start at 100% of the federal poverty level
- So a single adult earning below that line may qualify for neither
- If your income is close, an accurate estimate can make the difference: call us
Right at the line? If you can reasonably expect household income at or above 100% of the poverty level for the coming year, you may qualify for a tax credit on HealthCare.gov. We will walk through the estimate with you and point you to TennCare or community health centers if that is the better route.
